NEW ALBUM 'UNDENIABLE' IN STORES NOW
(NEW YORK, NY) - They're back....50 years and going strong, The Chipmunks celebrate the year with a bevy of undeniable news. The original motion picture soundtrack ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS (Razor & Tie/Bagdasarian Productions/FOX Music) has been certified platinum, making it the first platinum record for The Chipmunks since 1993. Released in November of 2007, the soundtrack has spent 56 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, peaking at #5 and has also sold over 1.6 million digital tracks. The album also recently won an American Music Awards for Favorite Album - Soundtrack category.
"I got a lot of strange looks when I said I expected this album to be platinum. But Janice and I have worked with The Chipmunks for over 30 years and they constantly defy the odds," expressed Ross Bagdasarian, CEO of Bagdasarian Productions.
Produced by Ali Dee (Mya, Shakira), the soundtrack showcases The Chipmunks' signature sound and modern takes on rock, pop, reggae and hip hop. In November 2008 Razor & Tie Entertainment released UNDENIABLE, the first new non-soundtrack Chipmunks album in over 10 years. The album has been on the Billboard Top 200 album chart since release and is currently the #1 album on the Billboard Children's chart. This new album, produced by Ross Bagdasarian, Janice Karman, and Ali Dee, features covers of major hits as well as four new Chipmunk originals. Standout songs include a remix of "We're The Chipmunks" (the theme song from the popular cartoon series), a moving version of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds," an epic take on Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer," an inspired version of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll," and a new Chipmunk original written by Janice Karman, "Ho, ho, ho." Rising pop star Drew Seeley (High School Musical soundtracks, Another Cinderella Story) is also featured on a duet of the classic disco hit "Shake Your Groove Thing." Alvin and The Chipmunks is the highest grossing talking animal or live action cartoon adaptation on record.
Robert Kraft, President of Fox Music, said "Seeing the success of the Chipmunks in the 21st century is a testament to the wonderful Ross Bagdasarian's original inspiration."
A global phenomenon to generations of fans, Alvin and The Chipmunks have sold more than 45 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy awards. They continue to engage audiences with animated television shows, feature films, album releases and video games.
